I think that’s a pretty ridiculous position to take.
You maybe don’t like that particular development, but there’s nothing about it that isn’t plausible.
Pregnancy isn’t addressed a lot in superhero comics, especially in regards to solo female leads. You know whats addressed even more rarely in comics? A woman who definitively declares that she does not ever want children. That is something that is very real and very difficult for any woman to say because our society does not generally understand that and a lot of women are made to feel obligated to have kids. Jessica Drew doesn’t want to be a mother, she’s said it, I’m almost positive its been said by her more than once. If editorial at the time allowed the writer to add this to the character it just looks really bad to go back on it now. I realize all anyone is going off of is one image of a pregnant Spider-Woman and it could be an intentionally misleading image. I’m reserving judgement until I actually read the book but if the character did get pregnant I think a much more important story to tell would have been the one where she decides the right thing for her is to have an abortion. Again, no idea what the story will be, maybe they will tell a well written story about her deciding to keep it, but like I said, I think going the other way is more true to the character and what has been written coming out of her mouth and a more important side of the story to tell. While superhero pregnancies don’t happen often, they have happened, Jessica Jones is a great example at Marvel of a woman who was a total mess getting pregnant and deciding to keep the child and it was written well, I want to see the other side. Not every woman needs to be Sue Richards.
